September 1, 2017

Friends, can we believe that today is the first day of September?! I’m struggling to believe so much of 2017 has passed by, and I’m finding it even harder to believe summer will be coming to a close. Per usual, I’m rejecting the idea that Labor Day is the end of summer, and I fully intend to soak in every bit of these final three weeks of the official season.

I’m looking forward to the weekend, because my aunt is bringing my dad to NYC for a visit, and it’s been over a year since the last time he was here. Before we all jump into our holiday weekend plans,  here are a few things worth sharing…On Tuesday afternoon, my mom and I met for tea service at Alice’s Tea Cup on the Upper West Side. I had been wanting to visit this place for awhile, because everyone talks about how quaint it is. We had a great conversation, really enjoyed their signature tea blend, and left stuffed with scones and tea sandwiches. It was the perfect place to be on a rainy day in NYC. A great experience for anyone who loves tea, and I can imagine the sweetest birthday party for a little girl there.

Speaking of things in NYC worth checking out, I’m eager to visit Industry City in Brooklyn. The food options and open spaces seem pretty dope. Have any of you been yet?

A few friends recently shared the article Even Babies Discriminateand though it was published years ago, it’s a really fascinating read and an article I think every parent should lend time to.

Have you seen this viral video of the mom doing back-to-school shopping in Target? I hollered.

Pretty sure I’ll take advantage of Labor Day weekend sales and grab a fall/rain coat like this one or this one.

And finally, watching the news of people displaced in Houston and imagining all of the long-term rebuilding that will need to take place there is a bit overwhelming. But if you’re looking to contribute in some small way and meet immediate, tangible needs, two organizations to consider are the Houston Food Bank and the Texas Diaper Bank.

Have a safe holiday weekend!
