The Mixtape // 10.27.17

It’s a big day over here in the Rice house. While most of you were soundly sleeping in your beds last night, Jordan was camping out on our sofa so as not to sleep through his 3:00 a.m. alarm — the moment when he’d order the new iPhone X. In case you didn’t know, he’s a dedicated Apple fan boy (we’re talking daily research on product developments, and he’ll rearrange meetings so he can watch the livestream of one of their announcements).

Thankfully his obsession hard work pays off, and our new phones will arrive with little wait time. Phew! (talk about #firstworldproblems). Now we can get the weekend started in peace. Here are some things worth sharing from the week before I go…Have you heard about this whole ugly sneaker trend? This is definitely one of those times when not being cool is clearly the coolest thing to do. Or something like that. What do you think?

This middle school choir from Baltimore has gone viral, and they might just be the pick-me-up you need today.

This week I discovered that there’s a Jamaican patois version of the Bible, and it’s given me life like nothing else.

I’m trying my best not to fill my closet with long cardigans, but they’re kind of the best things ever. I’m still obsessed with last year’s version of this one, and I just got this one (on sale!) for my birthday. Aaaand if someone wanted to buy me this one, I wouldn’t be mad.

Speaking of my birthday, I try to set an intention for the coming year on each birthday. For this year, I’m setting out to silence a lot of my self-doubt and negative self talk. My goal is to meet my doubts with grace and positivity, whether that’s by focusing more on what God says about me or in trying to encourage myself in the way I would encourage a friend. In case you’re curious, here was my intention for last year’s birthday.
