Happy Friday, friends! Jordan and I are just returning from an amazing week in Cape Town, South Africa. That means there are a ton of highlights from the past week, but it will take me a few days to edit my photos and share everything. Look out for all of the details next week.
For now, we’re excited to be back home with Jameson, and here are a few things worth sharing…
Did you catch the giveaway I’m doing with JORD watches? Everyone who enters gets something, so it’s definitely worth a looksy. Just one more week to enter.
Getting to Cape Town from NYC is a brutal 16 hours of flying time. But, the long flight was made better by getting to see the movie Queen of Katwe and finishing the book I Am Malala. Both have me riding a women’s empowerment high and checking my various levels of privilege.
I love our apartment in Harlem, but if I had to live in this place, I wouldn’t be mad about it. P.S. If you’re into interior design and not following SF Girl By Bay, do yourself a favor and get on it. Victoria’s eye for design and photography is so good.
I recently read an article about High-Pressure Parenting, and I found it fascinating. It breaks down how parents today spend way more time investing in their kids than previous generations, but it questions, “to what end?” A bit long, but worth it. This quote in particular struck me: “An excessive focus on academic success might encourage the habit of score-keeping, making it harder for adult children to find rewarding uses for their skills or to enjoy success when they find it.”
Finally, if you’ve ever bought a pursue or other type of leather bag that came with one of those felt protective dust bags (like this one), I discovered a new use for those bad boys — throw one in your suitcase the next time you travel and use it as a laundry bag to keep dirty things separate, to keep clean clothes fresh, and to keep the hotel room tidy. Jordan managed to not have dirty clothes all over the room while we were in Cape Town, and I was a happy girl.
Enjoy the weekend.

February 11, 2017 at 7:54 amGosh it looks like your standing on a cloud! I’ll have to remember the High Pressure Parenting book for when I have kids. This seems closer to my parenting style than many of my peers are practicing. Thanks for sharing.

And Cape Town?? I plan on going there for my birthday this summer.. but of course it’ll be winter there, but I’m still looking forward to it. I can’t wait for your recaps!
