It’s Friday, and I’m especially happy it’s here, because after traveling this week for work, Jordan is back in town to help share the load at home. MAJOR SALUTE to all of the single parents out there who operate as real-life heroes.
Also, a huge thanks to all of you who shared congratulations, well-wishes, and prayers for our family! We’re overjoyed about this new baby on the way. Many of you have placed your bets/asked if we know the gender — and we do! Read on for that news and some other things worth sharing from the week…
Are you a Sam Smith fan? His latest album is on heavy repeat over. Also, his recent Carpool Karaoke session was pretty amusing and confirms his incredible talent.
Speaking of good music, we’ve been singing an all-English version of this song at church lately, and it’s kind of the best thing ever.
Have you listened to the Dirty John podcast? It’s just six episodes, and it had me and Jordan totally captivated. Like I was literally on the 5 train listening to the last episode with my eyes wide open. If you’re into crime stories, give it a listen.
While I can appreciate a good sneaker, Jordan is a legit (recovering) sneaker head, and he hooked me up with a sweet pair for my birthday. Been getting lots of comments on these lately. Sold out on Nike.com, but he found mine on eBay.
We often think about sending Christmas cards, but I also love the idea of sending these or something similar to a few friends for Thanksgiving.
And as for the gender of our baby – some of you might know that we didn’t find out Jameson’s gender the whole time I was pregnant. Jordan got the honor of announcing his gender in the delivery room, which was pretty exciting. But this time around, because I was so hopeful for a girl, I didn’t want the risk of having my delivery tainted with disappointed in any way. And because I’m 35, I get covered genetic testing, which allowed us to find out the gender super early (at about 11 weeks).
Sooooo, drumroll please…..
It’s another BOY!
And I’ve slowly warmed up to the idea, although I’m still wrapping my head around a house full of boys, because it’s not what I ever imagined for myself. I am looking forward to the potential for Jameson and this little boy to have a connection and friendship that might not be possible if they were different genders. And of course there’s the potential for them to share a room for the long-haul and the whole sharing of clothes. :-) Even as I adjust my expectations, it’s all such a huge gift.
Sending love and hope you have a great weekend.

November 17, 2017 at 1:00 pmJessica, My heart is singing for you! Congratulations 😊 I got a little teary when you talk about adjusting your expectations for boy #2- I felt the same way when we found out Casey would be our second boy. But I can’t even tell you the bond I’ve witnessed in the past 7 months alone, and I think I really love being a “boy Mom”! Not sure if/when I’ll let go of the dream of a daughter, but being an overbearing mother-in-law doesn’t sound too bad 😊 Best of luck for a healthy pregnancy! Xoxo

November 17, 2017 at 5:36 pmCongratulations on baby #2. Moms of boys are such great people, if I do say so myself. Prepare for an adventure, and enjoy watching their relationship develop. That has been my favorite part these past two months.

December 21, 2017 at 10:00 amI meant to sent a huge congrats when I read this last month but then life got away from me for a bit!
So happy for you and your family. I had to laugh reading this though because I relate so much right now, I’m just a bit behind you – due with number two in early May and got the same genetic testing due to “advanced maternal age” (oh boy, that term :) haha). With a twinge of guilt I must admit we were slightly disappointed to find out it’s another girl but like you I’ve come around and am completely excited for Lucia to experience the sister bond. Hope you guys have a very Merry Christmas and excited to hear about your 2018 with the new addition!

December 21, 2017 at 8:58 pmAwwww, thanks so much, Mollie! That’s fantastic news! Congrats to you and your family. And LOL at “advanced maternal age.” That term definitely feels a bit disrespectful. Glad to know we can all be honest about the wide range of emotions that comes with parenthood too. :-)
