The Mixtape // 06.02.17

June 2, 2017

Happy Friday, friends. I hope you’ve got some good plans for the weekend. Tonight, we’re hosting a party to celebrate all of the amazing people who serve at our church, and tomorrow night we’re heading to a pop-up dinner at a secret to-be-announced location in Brooklyn. Should be good times on deck.

But first, the mix of things worth sharing from this past week…

Apparently there’s a master florist creating “Flower Flashes” around New York City — placing elaborate arrangements in trash cans, on statues, and in parks. I’m in love with this, and I’m hoping to come across one soon.

Have you seen Hasan Minhaj’s new comedy special, Homecoming King on Netflix? It was released last week with lots of buzz, and I can’t stop recommending it to people. As the daughter of an immigrant, I found it to be really funny and relatable. And his use of graphics in conjunction with his masterful storytelling and humor was really dope.

If you know your Myers-Briggs profile, you might get a kick out of reading about your personality type’s definition of hell.

My girlfriends and I got together for another one of our virtual book clubs, and this month, we discussed Trevor Noah’s book, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood. Noah does such a great job of explaining apartheid in a really tangible way, while also weaving in a good amount of humor as he tackled really tough topics. I loved reading this book, especially given our recent trip to South Africa. And the stories had me legit laughing out loud, looking like a crazy person on the subway. If you’re into audiobooks, this is a great one that’s only made funnier when you hear it read by Noah himself.

Finally, I want to give a shout out to the sun for coming out in NYC this week. We’ve been looking for you. Let’s do this more regularly, yeah?

Enjoy the weekend!
Jessica

Karen loved Born a Crime and got me a copy for my birthday, which I finished a week ago and also loved.

Yes, that book is making it’s way through our family too!
