Jameson Turns Three

May 9, 2018

How do you celebrate the third birthday of a little boy who’s obsessed with dinosaurs? With a dinosaur-themed party and mini photo shoot, of course. Now if you’re wondering whether Jordan and I are insane, because we decided to throw a party for Jameson, knowing that Josiah would likely be just two weeks old, well, you’re right. We’re kind of nuts. But it was because we knew the baby was coming that we wanted Jameson to feel really special on his birthday. Plus the plans for his birthday party last year were completely derailed by bad weather, so we felt a need to do it up a bit this year. Add to all of that, he’s finally at the age where he can truly understand the excitement of his birthday and birthday celebrations.

In the days leading up to his birthday, without prompting from us, he asked me and Jordan if we were going to have a dinosaur party. This guy LOVES dinosaurs. Thankfully for us, a dinosaur-themed party for a few of his fellow three-year-old pals from daycare was a no-brainer, and we’d been scoping out ideas for weeks before his birthday and Josiah’s arrival. Shout out to Pinterest for being an incredible source of inspiration.

Here are a few shots of the party decór, which Jameson loved and simultaneously tried to sabotage several times throughout the day. It took everything to keep those decorative dinosaurs on the table.

In case you’re interested, the items on the table were a mix of things we had on hand (plants and serving containers) and things we ordered from Amazon — tablecloths, a burlap runner, the happy birthday banner, miniature dinosaurs, which also served as party favors, an inflatable pteranodon (yes, at some point pterodactyls seem to have become pteranodons), an inflatable raptor, temporary dino tattoos, a dino coloring activity, and party hats, which I covered with construction paper (me and my hot glue gun reconnected in a way we haven’t in years).

Hosting a bunch of three-years-olds was as insane as you might imagine, and I definitely had moments where I questioned the whole party decision, but seeing Jameson’s smiles and complete joy with his party made all the craziness worth it.

Jordan also took Jameson outside to shoot some photos of him with the inflatable raptor, and looking at these photos completely takes me out.

Concentrate…

And this is the face of a little boy telling his father, “I need to carry the raptor.” ha!

“I need to, my Daddy.”

I’m dying from the cuteness…

Jameson – You’ve turned three years old, and you continue to light up our lives. There isn’t a day that goes by where we don’t thank God for the chance to be your parents and the chance to experience you. You are loving, determined, curious, smart, and funny. Like, seriously funny. You’re a fantastic big brother, son, grandson, and cousin. And there’s no one who impersonates a T-Rex quite like you. We love you.

And in the spirit of going down memory lane, here’s Jameson at one and Jameson at two.
