The Mixtape // 01.27.17

January 27, 2017

Is anyone else having a hard time believing we’re heading into the last weekend of January already? It feels like 2017 is off to a fast start.

I’m capping off the week with a little round up of things that made the last seven days memorable. Kind of like that classic mixtape you’d make in middle school for a friend, I’m putting my favorites together and passing them on.storiedstyledebonymag-2The most unique thing that happened this week, was finding out from friends that our picture is printed in the February issue of Ebony Magazine. Nearly a year ago, I shared how we were featured on Ebony.com as one of their “coolest black families,” which was really fun and special. Back then, our relatives were running around trying to find copies of Ebony in stores, and we had to clarify that they’d only find us online. Well, lo and behold, Ebony (the print edition) chose our photo as part of a feature promoting their online site, and so there we are! Thanks to everyone who snapped photos of the magazine and sent it our way!

Even though January moved fast, there’s still lots of winter left in NYC. If you live in a city that has cold winters and you don’t have these (or something similar), you’re doing it all wrong, my friends.

This essay about “Obedience Over Hustle,” captures a lot of what’s been on my mind lately.

So it’s pretty clear to see how divided our country is when it comes to politics. I’m all for civic engagement on the issues we hold dear, but I rarely find talking politics on Facebook to be helpful. If you’re finding yourself overwhelmed by the negativity on Facebook, Chrome has an extension you can install, which allows you to “turn politics off” when you’re looking through your News Feed. This little invention might keep some families together.

And while we’re on the topic of useful internet extensions, do you use Boomerang? So helpful for managing emails.

Finally — I seriously cannot get over this dog’s facial expression. I’ve watched this 11 times, at least, and it never gets old.
