Josiah at 2 Months

Last week Josiah turned two months old, and in the past month, two things have happened…First, he has totally upped the cuteness factor. His baby acne, which everyone said would go away in a few weeks, but I thought would last forever, actually cleared up in a few weeks. (yes, parenthood can make you doubt all of the wisdom you’ve heard from other people.)

In addition to his silky smooth skin, Josiah has a full arsenal of expressive faces, particularly when he’s waking up. This guy looooves his sleep. Which isn’t to say that he sleeps through the night, but it is to say that after waking up and eating, he’s very eager to get back to sleep.

Our favorite nickname for Josiah is “Smush,” because he always smushes his little lips and face up when we wake him up.

 SMUSHHHHHHH!

Josiah also started smiling intentionally at us, and not just randomly or due to passing gas (ha!). Watching him fix his eyes on me, recognize me, and then smile is seriously one of the very best feelings in the world.

He’s cooing a ton and trying to talk to us, and it’s a serious cuteness overload. He’s even starting to giggle a bit, which kills me.

Now, the second thing that’s happened in the last month, is my exhaustion has gotten REAL. I think I was running off of adrenaline for his first month, and in some ways, things really were easier, because he slept a ton, Jordan was home, and we had people bringing us meals.

Losing sleep for a month isn’t great, but it’s fairly manageable. But going a second month without sleep has been tough. Add to it, I’ve been dealing with high blood pressure, which wasn’t an issue during either of my pregnancies. I have to focus on getting rest and staying hydrated and eating well and minimizing stress, and none of those come easy with a baby who fully depends on you and all kinds of other family obligations.

Thankfully, I have the previous experience to know that this is for a season, and I will sleep again.

And thankfully, I have the silky smooth skin, smiles, coos, and giggles to make all of the exhaustion well worth it.

Looking forward to the days when I’m sleeping as good as this guy…
