The Mixtape

July 29, 2016

Happy Friday, friends!

I’m capping off the week with a little round up of things that made the last seven days memorable. In the interest of capturing meaningful moments and sharing something that might inspire us to live better stories, I’m thinking I might make this a regular thing. And kind of like that classic mixtape you’d make in middle school for a friend, I’m putting highlights together and passing them on.

So first, there’s this photo above, which my mom uncovered and sent me this week. Taken on the beach in Jamaica, this gave me so much life, because 1) I love the cousin feeding me ice cream, 2) I could use adult versions of my lime green ruffled top and beach robe, and 3) I totally see the resemblance between baby me and Jameson.

Other things…

An interesting article on U.S. parents being less happy than parents around the world.

In the last few months, I’ve gotten more and more into podcasts — my favorite thing being to listen to one as I cook dinner. As a big fan of This American Life, a friend suggested I follow Invisibilia too, and I’m so glad she did. It’s all about the invisible forces that control human behavior, and this recent episode is particularly worth a listen, in light of everything going on in our country and world.

This meal from Blue Apron had all my favorites, and I will replicate it soon.

I finally got Jameson to the Children’s Museum of Manhattan after the failed attempt on his first birthday. I took his big cousins along too, and that place was both my saving grace for killing so much time and darn near my breaking point as I chased those kids around. They loved it.

A little bathroom decorating inspiration via Apartment Therapy.

My sister-in-law FaceTimed me from the floor of the Democratic National Convention (NY delegates were front and center) as Hillary Clinton came to the stage for her speech on Thursday night. Political leanings aside, I’m blown away by the historical significance of our first female nominee for U.S. president. Here’s to the glass ceiling being broken.

Have a great weekend.

I am so relieved! When I first saw the picture, I thought that it was Jameson being fed by his cousin, and I was wondering about the feminine bathing suit! Lol! What a resemblance!
