The Mixtape // 12.16.16

December 16, 2016

It’s Friday, and Christmas is less than 10 days away, my friends.

I’m capping off the week with a little round up of things that made the last seven days memorable. I’m hoping these meaningful moments might inspire us to live better stories. And kind of like that classic mixtape you’d make in middle school for a friend, I’m putting highlights together and passing them on.

wreath2Now that we’ve gotten our Christmas tree, I’m going all in on Christmas. We’ve got egg nog on hand, personalized stockings hanging over the radiator (because, prewar building apartment in NYC), and homemade wreaths hanging in the window. I used this tutorial by Francois et Moi as my inspiration (pictured above) and made mine with tree trimmings instead of eucalyptus because it was what I had on hand. These are super simple to make, and I love their minimal style.

On the topic of Christmas “to-do’s,” visiting the train show at the NY Botanical Garden is topping the list, and I’m hoping we’ll get there next week. If you’re never been, and you’re in the NY area, get there. Here’s photos from our visit last year.

I’m also thinking to make my rounds and see at least a few from this list of top 10 Christmas trees in NYC.

I’ve been wanting to saturate my ears with Christmas music, buuuut, there’s just so much good non-Christmas music out right now, it’s been hard. JohnnySwim’s Georgica Pond is just one of several good albums on heavy rotation over here. It’s one of those play-all-the-way-through albums, and my favorite tracks are Touching Heaven, In My Arms, and Say Goodnight Instead. Three cheers for quality music.

And finally, some of the tweets on this list had me dying with laughter. If you’re in need of a break from work, I submit: 100 Funny Tweets That Sum Up Parenting.
