The Mixtape // 09.02.16

I’m happy to report I’m making good progress on completing my end of summer wish list. This week we shared an evening picnic and lots of laughs with friends by the Hudson. All of you without kids who have bedtimes, please spend some leisurely, long nights outside on my behalf.

Here’s this week’s mix of things worth sharing.

StoriedStyledAmpleHillsTo check another to-do off the summer wish list, we made a trip to the original Ample Hills Creamery in Brooklyn. I had heard great things about their ice cream, which was why I wanted to try it so badly — but seriously, I wasn’t prepared. That ice cream is incredible. Like, you’ll make noises as you eat it and feel embarrassed when the people working behind the counter keep looking up at you. I just kept looking back at them, and saying, “this is so good,” as I shook my head. I think their most popular flavor is the salted crack caramel, but I opted for the ooey gooey butter cake and bourbon street flavors in a cookie cone. And Jameson, who loves ice cream so much as it is, was in absolute heaven. I could go on about the other flavors I sampled and make this entire post an ode to their ice cream, but I’ll stop here. You can find their ice cream all around the city and they even ship it (apparently, this is how my bestie, Oprah, gets hers). Get you some!

Whether you’ve been to Harlem or not, you’re probably at least familiar with this famous photograph taken in 1958 0f 57 jazz greats. The landlord of our last apartment is born and raised in Harlem and had this photograph hanging in the entryway of the brownstone where we lived. So I loved reading the story behind that “great day in Harlem.”

Some really insightful words about the ups and downs of marriage.

My sneakerhead husband, Jordan, bought me these sneakers, and in addition to getting lots of attention, they’re ridiculously comfortable. And also on the topic of Jordan’s sneaker habit, this instagram post still cracks me up.

Anybody else watching The Get Down on Netflix? We watched the first episode this week, and while I’m the worst at keeping up with TV, I’m going to try to watch the full season.

Have a great holiday weekend!

We definitely binge watched the first season of “The Get Down” in like two days a couple weeks ago. So so good. Thank God for Netflix (and Amazon Fire). Live TV is underrated ;-)

Yes! Thank God for it, although Jordan always complains that I’m the worst at binge watching (which is true).
