I’m capping off the week with a little round up of things that made the last seven days memorable. I’m hoping these meaningful moments might inspire us to live better stories. And kind of like that classic mixtape you’d make in middle school for a friend, I’m putting highlights together and passing them on.
On Wednesday I was invited to share my story at an event called Wisdom and Wine (pictured above), hosted by F.L.A.W.E.D. Inc. It was a sweet time with a group of inspiring women, talking about loss and finding hope, healing, and happiness — all while soaking up the beauty of Morningside Park at sunset. When the conversation turned toward finding our identities, I love what one woman said, “We grow up always being asked, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ and ‘What do you want to do?’ But no one ever asks us, ‘Who do you want to be when you grow up?’ And we wonder why we have trouble believing that what we do doesn’t define who we are.” Two. Snaps.

This song has been on heavy rotation. I’m particularly fond of the line, “Have you come to the end of yourself?”
Dinner with some of my favorite church planters was made even better thanks to chicken and waffles — a bourbon butter pecan waffle, might I add — at The Pink Tea Cup in Brooklyn. Get yourself some of that if you can.
This article had me genuinely laughing out loud at several points. I’m grateful for laughter in the midst of so much political turmoil.
People often ask me about our plans for Jameson’s schooling, given that we live in NYC where the system can be incredibly overwhelming. This thoughtful piece was published a couple months ago, but I finally got time to read it this week. In a world where we’re conditioned to look out for our best interests above all else, and as Jordan and I plan to live in Harlem for a long, long time, this gives lots to consider.
Can we talk about how Instagram gets the Savage Award of the Week with the way they completely duplicated the SnapChat app without even pretending to offer anything different? And I’m absolutely here for it. One less social media app to visit is quite alright with me.
