The Mixtape // 04.21.17

Friday is here, and that means I’m sharing a few of the things that brought goodness to this past week. 

I took Jameson to the Children’s Museum of Manhattan for a few hours yesterday, and while he started off timid, it didn’t take him longer than five minutes to start running all up and through the place. He played in the sandbox. He finger painted on the mural wall. He climbed on bamboo and fed me a pretend sushi bento box in the Japan exhibit. With the prevalence of Starbucks and trendy coffee shops, it’s easy to become desensitized to the idea of a $4 coffee drink. But I often think about how there are real cultural implications to this stuff, especially in cities across the country that are experiencing rapid gentrification. That’s why I really enjoyed reading this article: Has Coffee Gotten Too Fancy?

We sang only hymns at our church’s Good Friday service, and I’m still riding the wave. This album has been on heavy rotation this week.

A friend brought Magnolia Bakery banana pudding to a meeting we had, and I was reminded of how it’s truly one of the best desserts you can eat in NYC. The recipe, in case you can’t make it to NYC or just want to make it at home.

Sheryl Sandberg is obviously known as Facebook’s COO and champion of the need to “Lean In.” But her public writings on grief after the sudden death of her husband are what have led me to admire her the most. She’s on the cover of TIME Magazine this week, and as someone who can relate to the trauma of losing a loved one suddenly, her article is worth a read.

Even though I’ve been there a few times, I’m taking any suggestions you have for places to visit in San Diego, as we’ll be heading there next week for a wedding. A favorite place to eat? A must-see thing? The best experience? Please share!
