From the first day of Pre-K 4 to the last day! This school year was not at all what we expected, and Lord knows, our approach to working from home while “distance learning” was SURVIVAL, at best. For as hard as it’s been, I’m grateful for how the past 15 weeks at home gave us added time to witness Jameson’s creativity, curiosity, extensive vocabulary (both impressive and exhausting 🤣), and most of all, his resilience. To all the parents of school-aged kids: I hope as you process whatever disappointments you might have about your child’s school year that you’ll be sure to offer yourself and your child lots of grace. As wild as living through a global pandemic is, many of us still forget just how much our expectations need to be adjusted as a result. Shout out to all of the dedicated educators who poured themselves out to get us through!
Onward to kindergarten! 🙌🏾

#TBT Throwing it back to the first photo @jordanlrice and I took together after meeting back in 2012. 😩 This was a few weeks after we’d met — he’d come to visit me in D.C., and I randomly took him to my Godmother’s house to meet a whole bunch of family, and he handled it like a champ (most of the family had probably already stalked him on the internet, and those red pants of his were a huge hit! 😂). Speaking of potentially awkward situations, a lot of people ask Jordan and me if our relationship is hard/awkward because we’re widowed?? Like how does dealing with the whole late spouse thing work? 👀

Jordan jumped on the blog with me to share a little of how things look in our marriage. And I think there’s some good insight in there for any relationship—whether with someone widowed or anyone with a “complicated” past. Link is in my bio!

When you ask Jameson what he wants to be when he grows up, he’ll often say, “I wanna be a dad.” And I know that’s without a doubt because of the awesome example set by @jordanlrice. 😭 For every tender kiss, for every life lesson shared, for every diaper changed, for every bodega snack snuck to Jameson, for every bit of Godly character modeled, for every barbershop trip, for every sacrifice, for every bedtime story, for every mundane moment, and for being the one who brings constant fun to our home — HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, Jordan! We love you so much.

On the day news broke about George Floyd’s murde

On the day news broke about George Floyd’s murder, we started a one-week stay at a lake house a couple hours drive from Manhattan. Already weary from 10 weeks of sheltering-in-place and the grief that has come from losing people we loved/knew to coronoavirus (not to mention the collective loss of 100K+ souls), we were ready to find some peace in a beautiful place with family. As news developed and the nation processed what happened to George and has happened through our country’s violent history, we realized just how much of a gift that week away would be. Looking at the water, grilling our favorite meals, running through sprinklers, exercising, spotting bald eagles, and seeing what beauty the day’s sunset would hold. Our joy, our living, our love were our first acts of resistance and our salve. Sharing more photos and a link to the house where we stayed in a post on my blog. Link is in my bio. ❤️
