Jameson at 10 Months

March 7, 2016

A friend once told me that when a baby has been living outside the womb longer than they were inside the womb — that’s when things get really fun. And while Jordan and I have been incredibly amused by Jameson from the day he came out, I do think this past month has been one of my favorites.

DSC_9866Month four was also a really good month, because I fully believe in the whole idea of a “fourth trimester,” and that it took Jameson about three months to adjust to being out in this crazy world we live in. But once he did, he settled into life, and subsequently, I settled into motherhood (or became much more comfortable with the roller coaster ride that it is).

So now, back to month 10, and why it’s been so great. Last month I wrote about how he started crawling, and while it totally ups the potential for him to get into things he shouldn’t, I love seeing the new stage of independence he’s gained.

It’s fun to put him down and tell him to follow me into another room. Or to know he’ll be entertained walking and moving around the living room for far longer than he’d ever be in an exersaucer.

And the best is when he grabs something he’s not supposed to, and we say, “Jameson, no.” — he actually drops the thing and starts to whine or cry. Not quite sure if that’s because he can’t have the thing he wants or if he hates getting in trouble. We might have a goody-two-shoes on our hands. Then again… maybe not, because if left alone, he’d quickly grab for that same thing again about five seconds later, as if we might have changed our minds about it.

Lots of parents are excited to see their babies walk, and while I’m looking forward to it and all it means for his development, I’m also really enjoying this sweet time when he can move around but not too quickly.DSC_9870 This time when every so often after exploring on his own, he crawls his way over to my feet…

pulls himself up to standing by yanking down on my pant legs…

takes my hands and assertively places them under his armpits…

and looks up at me with eyes that say, “pick me up, Mommy.”

Melts me every time.

That face makes me smile, makes me miss the babyhood of each of mine (though, as you’ll realize, there are wondrous and melt-worthy things at every age (even teen years, as I’m finding)).

Thanks for that, Arenbya! Just thinking about those future moments to come warms my heart.
