2018 Mother’s Day Gift Guide

April 30, 2018

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, and I had hoped to share my gift ideas last week, but you know… I was doing the mom thing and gave birth to a baby. :-)

But there’s still time (two weeks, to be exact), for all of us to find thoughtful gifts that let the moms in our lives know how much we love and appreciate them. I’m looking forward to letting the lady in the photo above know how much she means to me.

2018 Mother’s Day Gift GuideThis Ember Temperature Control Ceramic Mug, $80, is one of the best product ideas I’ve heard of in a long time. Any mom who enjoys coffee and has small kids knows the struggle of pouring herself a cup and having it go cold before she gets to drink it. The Ember mug is controlled by your smartphone or Apple Watch to keep your coffee at the temperature you select. Pure genius.

Moms are often known for taking care of everyone else but themselves, so giving a gift that involves her being cared for is a great idea — whether that’s an appointment for a massage, facial or nail service. If you’re stumped for a place to send her, Massage Envy has locations in all 50 states.

I’ve heard from several moms who love Promptly Journals, $20 – $36, which give simple prompts to help document their child’s life. The childhood edition would make a great gift for an expecting or new mom, but there are also versions to capture adoption stories, love stories, and travel adventures.

If exercising is mom’s thing, you should definitely consider gifting her with a stylish pair of leggings from Outdoor Voices, $70 – $95. Exercise is not my thing, and I think just having a pair of these leggings might encourage me to work out more.

What mom wouldn’t want to wear some kind of jewelry that’s stylish and reminds her of her kids? GLDN offers all kinds of personalized options, like this Bennett necklace, starting at $43. Order your jewelry by May 2 to receive your items by Mother’s Day with standard shipping.

If you’re an HGTV watcher, you know all about Chip and Joanna Gaines and the magic they work on the show Fixer Upper. If mom’s ideal vacation is a trip to The Silos in Waco, TX, get her a copy of Joanna’s new cookbook, Magnolia Table, $17.99. And if you want to go all-out, you can even get her an autographed copy for $64.95.

Every mom needs some comfortable shoes, and a pair of classic all-white Stan Smiths, $90, are perfect for running around in a casual outfit or pairing with a dress (if she’s digging that trend).

Flowers always make a great gift, and if you’re looking to send her some beautiful blooms, you should definitely check out this Farmgirl Flowers arrangement, which benefits maternal health organization Every Mother Counts. But house plants are also so trendy these days, you might want to think of getting her a plant, which will last longer and breathe oxygen into her abode. The Sill has a great selection of plants, including this small heart-shaped plant for $10.

For the mom who has everything, a donation to Mothers’ Day Movement in her honor will help provide efficient solar power to health facilities without reliable electricity, thus improving maternal health outcomes. I love this quote on their website from journalist Nicholas Kristof: “It’s time to move the apostrophe so that it becomes not just Mother’s Day honoring a single mother but Mothers’ Day, an occasion to try and help Mothers around the globe as well.”

And finally, for the mom who’s more interested in experiences than things, consider treating her to tickets for a show or concert, or taking her to a restaurant that specializes in her favorite cuisine, or finding a hotel that hosts afternoon tea. She’ll love experiencing something new while getting the chance to spend time with you.

Any other ideas you’d add to this list? If you’re looking for more inspiration, here’s last year’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide.
